Last night I helped launch the 2010 FD Excellence Awards. The ICAEW, for the first time, is a partner in the awards which were established in 2004 to recognise the contribution made to UK plc by outstanding finance directors. In today’s difficult economic climate, with the performance and reputation of the UK’s corporate community under scrutiny, the role of the finance director has never been more important. The ICAEW continues to support this group of people and programmes like our F-Ten mentoring programme help identify the next generation of finance leaders.
As we already know, finance professionals make excellent leaders, especially in troubled times and the traditional role of the FD is changing, increasing the need for a wider skill set as the role broadens and develops. In recognition of these outstanding individuals, please don’t forget to both nominate and complete the FDs survey by the closing date of 1 March.
