CGT procedures under review

Valuations, helpline for queries, R40 claims with CGT and SA for one-off CGT disposals

We have been asked by HMRC for feedback on four issues relating to capital gains tax procedures.

Form CG34 & Post Transaction Valuation Check Service

In November 2009 HMRC introduced new procedures to speed up the PTVC service and asked agents to send the CG34 request directly to an office in Cardiff.

  • Have you noticed any difference in the service since the new measures have been introduced?
  • Do you feel confident in what you need to send with the request so that your valuation can be dealt with as quickly as possible?

Agent designated Helpline

  • If you have a CGT related query, would you contact the agent designated helpline or go through the normal SA helpline?
  • If you have used the service did you get the information you needed immediately or did you have an advisor call you back

Use of R40’s to claim repayments for Capital gains

  • In what circumstances would you advocate a client to use this method of advising us about a CGT disposal?
  • Do you use the R40 CG to make payments for CGT and if so why?

Setting up customers on SA for ‘one off’ CGT disposals

  • Is this your preferred route for dealing with customers with a “one off “ CGT disposal
  • Are there any advantages or disadvantages you have found in setting up customers on SA for CGT purposes
