More on tax codes for 2010/11

HMRC looks at more affected cases and warns of delays to some P9 notices to employers

Further to our recent news item on PAYE code problems, HMRC has updated its advice for employers and individuals who think a 2010/11 tax code may be wrong.

Employers are also warned that they may not receive as many P9 code notices as they were expecting. Whilst most P9s will be issued as normal, HMRC is reviewing those individuals it thinks are most at risk of receiving an incorrect tax code and these may be issued at a later date than would normally be expected. If you do not receive a P9 for an employee or pensioner, you are advised to continue to use the existing code number for the year 2010/11.

Most of the problems with multiple or incorrect coding notices: are caused by data mismatch issues.
