Discussions about Agent Dedicated Lines and about getting time to pay
There are two new discussion topics on the Tax Faculty’s Talk Tax Forum.
We would like to hear about agents’ experiences with:
HMRC’s Agent Dedicated Lines
Are the agent telephone lines still working well? We have had reports that the Agent Dedicated Lines are not working as effectively as they did when first introduced. If this is a problem, we would like to take it up with HMRC.
Agreeing time to pay for your clients
Does HMRC have the right balance in chasing those who are avoiding paying tax and supporting those who need help?
We have received reports that practitioners are finding it more difficult to agree payment arrangements with HMRC where a client is unable to pay tax by the due date.
We accept that HMRC needs to distinguish the “won’t pays” from the “can’t pays”, and that sometimes it may be in no-one’s interest to make a payment arrangement. However, if there is a widespread problem in getting time to pay in genuine cases, we want to work with HMRC to improve the system.
