Trust and estate tax returns

I didn’t think HMRC had a free online Trust and Estate return package so was a bit surprised by the news item about a ‘revised’ online filing system. ‘Revised’ implies there was something there before. Is this announcement referring to the way HMRC deals with Trust returns submitted using third party software?  Previously returns which were submitted on line were printed off and input manually, with the potential for inputting errors. Does anyone know what exactly HMRC has revised about its processes?

I think all this announcement means is that, finally for trust returns, the Revenue have linked up their internal systems with the taxpayer-facing area. Previously, as Angela Williams says, the Revenue had to print out all trust returns submitted electronically and then manually input those printouts into their internal system. What I understand by this announcement is that trust returns submitted electronically are now to be processed electronically within the Revenue, without the need to print out and manually re-input. This brings trust returns into line with how personal returns have been handled by the Revenue since self assessment was introduced.
