Action on HMRC service issues – update at 9 January 2012

Continuing work in 2012, HMRC contact links for resolving problems

We would like to thank all those who volunteered during 2011 to help HMRC understand the problems that agents and the public are experiencing in dealing with HMRC.

In January, while many of you are busy finalising the last 2011 SA Tax Returns, we will be continuing to move this work forward and will keep you informed of progress through our news updates at Working with HMRC.

During this period it is even more important that you are able to contact HMRC to resolve client problems and ensure that correspondence is sent to the correct address to avoid delays. If you are having problems with any HMRC service, such as online filing or perhaps, not being able to contact HMRC, or struggling to obtain a UTR, please let us know immediately.

We can only take action to ask HMRC to rectify a problem if we hear about it from you.

Please post a comment on the Tax forum so that other agents can see and add their comments or e mail philippa.stedman@icaew.com.

Don’t forget to use HMRC’s Agent dedicated lines and the Agent account manager service for client specific problems.

We set out below some useful links to HMRC’s website with contact telephone numbers and addresses:

HMRC: Dedicated helplines and contacts for authorised agents

HMRC: Agent Account Managers (AAMs) in HM Revenue & Customs

HMRC: Make a complaint to HM Revenue & Customs.

For your information we have had another tremendous response to our request for volunteers to help HMRC pilot the new proposed agent enrolment and self serve proposals. Over 50 volunteers so far have come forward to help with pilots.
