2013 will see the biggest change to PAYE processes in nearly 70 years.

Maggie Anderson of HMRC and Steve Wade of KPMG returned to ICAEW to give a more in-depth analysis following the first RTI Webinar held in September 2013. Over 800 members tuned in to hear them speak and both Maggie and Steve took members' burning questions on how RTI will affect them and their clients.

Real Time Information will mean that for most payments to employees via payroll, the data will have to be submitted to HMRC on or before payday.

This was the first ICAEW webinar that I attended and found it interesting and useful.

I am being told by my software provider that all employees including those paid under the LEL have to included in RTI.

My understanding is that this is only the case if one of your employees earns over the LEL. ie one over the LEL and they're all in RTI . Nobody above the LEL and the no RTI requirement.

I'd be grateful for clarification.

If nobody is paid above the LEL (and no-one has tax deducted), you do not need a PAYE scheme. If you don't have a PAYE scheme, RTI does not apply.

But if you have a PAYE scheme, you must comply with RTI. So, if this applies to you and you have a PAYE scheme, close it before 2013/14.

I listened to the two RTI webinars, attended the ICAEW RTI event last Wednesday and three other RTI events but no-one has been able to answer the following: At present if a sole director is paid a salary equal to the lower earnings limit, providing a PAYE scheme is being operated and a P35 is submitted the director is entitled to all NI benefits. If a scheme is closed by HMRC or on request and the director draws the same salary will they still be covered for NI benefits merely by the fact that the salary is shown on their SA Return ? If not how should l=the salary be notified to HMRC or the DWP in order to preserve benefits ?

To be entitled to NI "benefits" (by which I presume you mean state pension contributions) a director must be paid at or above the LEL. If anyone is paid at or above the LEL the company must operate a PAYE scheme - it cannot be closed.

I have listened to both RTI webinars & found them helpful. We have a few employees that use their middle names & 1 who uses her maiden name at work - I assume that I have to give their correct names in the FPS but can I still use their middle/maiden name in the BACS payment that I make to them or does that have to agree with the FPS too? Thanks for your help Alison
