Get safe online

Following on from IanW's excellent post earlier today about protecting your personal data, or rather NOT doing so, I thought I'd take the opportunity to point out that this week is Get Safe Online Week.

What does that mean? Well essentially it means that this week has been designated an awareness raising week with regard to internet safety issues. OK, it isn't Stop Shouting Your Personal Business On Your Phone So People Can Google You Week, but I'm sure you get the point I am making.

I remember being told a similar story to the one IanW related by a fellow journalist: train, loud phone calls, a bit of Googling. My colleague ended his 'research' by writing the telephone caller's address on a piece of paper and handing it to them. They were aghast, of course, until he explained what he'd done.

Anyway, Get Safe Online Week.

There are loads of learning and information materials, some scary statistics, and plenty more to read.

Now, please, no more loud phone conversations. Though if anyone can come up with an explanation as to why people talk louder when they are on the phone than when they are chatting to someone sitting next to them, I'd love to hear it!
