The IT Faculty has recently published a ‘Guide to Cloud Computing for Business Managers’. This is one in a series of regular technical publications that are produced for the members of the IT Faculty. A sample of the guide is
available here.
The guide, written for business managers (rather than ‘techies’) defines cloud computing in straightforward language and then discusses pros and cons of the cloud. It offers advice on choosing and doing business with a cloud provider as well as business implications of the cloud.
Being accountants (!) there is an in-depth review of secuity issues as well as an attempt to outline some of the myths of cloud computing. The guide also covers the common question about what happens if the broadband link goes down. Finally there is a helpful glossary and a an overview of example cloud providers.
As with all faculty publications, the guide has been reviewed extensively by the faculty technical committee in order to make the finished publication a useful (and digestible) read.
The guide is available to faculty members as part of their subscription. It can be purchased from the ICAEW shop or made available to new members of the faculty (membership is open to anyone, details available here).
The faculty will be running a seminar on cloud computing for accountants in September. What are the subjects you think we should be covering?
