Hi there,

I'm a qualified accountant working in industry. We are a large group with multiple legal entities and currently outsource our accounts production and corporation tax.

I am currently considering bringing these in-house and looking at Sage Accounts Production Advanced, including iXBRL tagging and Corporation Tax modules.

I have used Sage products in the past (some time ago now!), but with the fast evolving iXBRL software requirements I wondered if anyone out there is currently using this software for accounts production, corporation tax comps and iXBRL filing and could comment on the product (pro's, cons, constraints etc).

If anyone else knows of any other software that also incorporates all of the aforementioned features, I'd be happy to hear about them also.

I have also noted that Sage is not accredited with HMRC, although they are working on a beta version of the product to cope with the increasing number od iXBRL tags and this is possibly going to be accredited. Does this mean the product is likely to become redundant?

CCH Accounts Production and CCH iXBRL Review & Tag have been adopted by a significant number of companies over the last year to automate the production of their accounts and convert Word/Excel accounts to iXBRL format. I use Sage Accounts Production Advanced with iXBRL and Sage Corporation Tax. Initially iXBRL was quite cumbersome but Sage have brought out an update which likely is easier and more efficient. As to the use of these products I regard them as reasonably well compliant however as is usual with Sage, the modules are not very user friendly.

My main reason for responding to your question however is that I have just received my licence renewal premiums from Sage for their accounts and tax packages of which the main ones are SAPA and Sage CT as above - overall charge has increased by 61% from £659 up to £1063 - they claim they have hitherto undercharged me! They also will be increasing their charges next year by some 36% and similar in 2014. And apparently no room for negotiation - what arrogance! Has anyone else received this approach from Sage? If so what do you intend to do about it? Their products are not that good but I resent the idea of learning new packages and having to transfer much data across. DG. Bristol
